This Logic Puzzle Is Said To Be The HARDEST Ever Created
Ready to wrap your brain around the world's hardest logic puzzle? Let's go.
An American logician Raymond Smullyan invented a logic puzzle called "The Hardest Logic Puzzle Ever"
The logic puzzle was called so due to its complexity by another American logician George Boolos shortly before his death in 1996.
Boolos, who and Raymond were colleagues, had written a paper on the puzzle which was published in The Harvard Review of Philosophy.
There are multiple things that make this logic puzzle an incredibly difficult one to solve. How so?
First and foremost, the puzzle has certain language barriers that make it hard to grasp, and on top of that, there is the problem of untruthfulness along with randomness in it.
It is said that solving this puzzle could help one understand a little more about how to extract truth in a world where imperfect information abounds.
Wondering what could possibly be so tough?
Brace yourself. Here's how the puzzle goes:
Three alien overlords A, B, and C are called, in some order, Tee, Eff, and Arr.
While Tee always speaks truly, Eff will speak falsely, and Arr will give random answers.
You must determine the identities of A, B, and C by asking three yes-no questions; each question must be put to exactly one alien overlord.
While the overlords understand English, they will answer all questions in their own language in which the words for 'yes' and 'no' are 'ozo' and 'ulu', in some order.
You do not know which word means which. So how do you determine their identities?
