Proton has unveiled the new Proton Suprima S Super Premium at the Proton Sales Carnival in Melaka today. The new variant is now the range-topper of the Proton Suprima range, positioned above the Executive and Premium models.

The Suprima S Super Premium is priced at RM87,929, which is an RM8,350 premium over the next step down in the Suprima range, in this case the Suprima S Premium. The car is available in only two colours – Fire Red and Solid White.

The national car company is promoting its latest model with attractive prizes. PROTON Holdings Bhd (Proton) recently launched an exciting contest called Pandu & Menang.

According to Proton deputy chief executive officer Datuk Lukman Ibrahim, the objective of the contest was to create excitement and visibility of the brand. "This is an interesting way for us to invite the public to test drive and experience a Proton car for themselves," he said.

The contest is divided into two segments – one is via SMS, where participants will need to answer two questions correctly and respond in the fastest time to win the daily prizes. The second portion of the contest invites participants to take a creative picture with the Proton test drive vehicle and upload it on Facebook to win the weekly prizes.

Suprima S has a 190 km/h top speed and a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 9.9 seconds, while fuel consumption is rated at 9.1 litres per 100 km.

The car is powered by the company’s own 1.6-liter Campro Turbo engine that is mated with 7-speed ProTronic CVT automatic transmission which altogether produced 140 at 5000rpm and maximum torque of 205Nm from between 2000 to 4000rpm.

Speaking of the boot, usable luggage space is 309 litres by ISO, or VDA measurement volume, and 427 litres in total, loaded to the rear parcel shelf. The Premium features 17-inch units wheels and the Executive, 16-inch ones.

Also standard fit are driver’s seat manual height adjustment, remote tailgate release, steering wheel audio controls, front fog lamps, tinted windows and rear parking sensors.

Under the hood sits a 1.6-litre turbocharged CFE CamPro engine, capable of producing up to 138 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. This performance is equivalent to a 2.0-litre engine but with a 1.6-litre fuel economy.

Safety kit for the five-star ANCAP-rated Suprima S consists of ABS with EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control and two rear Isofix mounts. Equipped with six airbags, hill-hold assist and electronic gear shift lock to the list.

It includes Android-based Proton Infotainment System consisting of a seven-inch LCD screen DVD player with GPS navigation and Bluetooth/USB/iPod connectivity, paired to four speakers in the Executive and six speakers in the Premium (two are A-pillar mounted tweeters).

The system offers Wi-Fi connectivity off a mobile phone or portable hotspot, allowing Internet on the go, though for safety reasons the DVD player and Wi-Fi-based browsing can only be accessed when the handbrake is engaged

“Waiting list for the Premium variant is about one month while Executive, minimum two months. Proton is also offering a five-year or 150,000km manufacturer warranty, and a five-year free road assist,” said Proton Edar Sdn Bhd Kuching sales manager Yusuf Mohamad.

The Suprima S is built solid inside out. The exterior chassis does not “klank” and the interior (of the Premium variant) is all leather and pretty posh — impressive for a car that is under RM100,000.

Design-wise, the Suprima S has a visually tauter front end compared to its Preve sibling, the Proton Wings-inspired face displaying a new black honeycomb grille and new inserts for the bumper; the fog lamp surround on the left continues to be an intake point, feeding air to the intercooler.

The same mill equips the Premium version of the Preve, and makes it way on here without any revisions – the low-pressure turbocharged unit delivers identical 138 hp at 5,000 rpm and 205 Nm between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm output numbers.

Proton Suprima S Price In Malaysia. Proton Suprima S was officially launched in Malaysia yesterday, 17 August 2013 at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre by former Malaysia Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The upcoming Proton P3-22A, or the Preve Hatchback as we know it, will officially be called the Proton Suprima S, as this picture confirms. Proton filed to trademark the name, without the ‘S’ suffix, in January this year.

It looks like it’s getting ever closer to the official launch of the Proton Preve Hatchback – we have a couple of snaps of the car taken by reader Sheikh Zaid, who caught this metallic blue example at Sentral.

All the cladding – save tape to mask the logos (front visible in pix, rear too presumably) – is gone, and there’s a reason for the undisguised car being in such a high traffic area; Sheikh says that a video crew was filming the car. Presumably, it’s a TVC shoot.

For the Preve, Proton has been testing the five-door C-Segment hatch with heavy camouflage over the last year in Malaysia. The variant spied has very limited camouflage that helps understand the car’s styling in advance.

The Preve’s competitors are the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback, Honda Civic hatch and the Ford Focus. A 1.6-litre in-line four-cylinder gasoline unit that produces 107hp @ 5750rpm and 150Nm of torque @4000rpm sits under the bonnet.

It is matched to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed Continuously Variable Transmission CVT.
