11MP Outlines National Growth Beyond Vision 2020 With Six Strategic Thrusts

The five-year plan, according to Najib, reaffirms the government’s commitment to the people, and its belief that growth cannot be measured by economic success alone. The plan reckons that the well-being of the rakyat and a commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth was necessary hallmarks of an advanced nation.

The Malaysian economy would benefit from more robust global economic prospects, recovery of commodity prices and benign global inflation, he said.

The 11MP also looks beyond 2020 with Malaysia to remain as an open economy, regionally and globally integrated post-2020. Growth would be driven by the private sector with private investment expanding at 9.4 per annum. The manufacturing and services sectors are expected to contribute more than 75 per cent of the GDP.

A statement posted on Najib's Facebook page yesterday stated that the 11MP will be the "final lap" in the country's efforts to achieve a developed-nation status as outlined in Vision 2020 (Wawasan 2020)

Khamis ini, saya akan membentangkan #RMK11 , hala tuju Malaysia untuk 5 tahun yang akan datang. Inilah 'final lap'...

Posted by Najib Razak on Tuesday, 19 May 2015

Najib was previously reported to have said that the 11MP will continue to focus on prioritising the people, especially in matter related to living costs, education, public transport safety and rural infrastructure

It is apparent that the 11MP will pay much attention to the bottom 40% of Malaysians in terms of income due to tougher economic conditions, with a slowdown in consumer spending due to the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) as well as falling commodity prices.

The emphasis on education as a driver to improve the livelihoods of the low-income group is also expected to be highlighted in 11MP, as the prime minister had previously said that in Malaysia, every student can go to university as long as they have the will power to succeed.
