Datuk Seri Ahmad Zaid Hamidi's legal woes are set to continue after businessman Amir Bazli Abdullah made it known that he will nullify the mediation exercise last week which saw his assault suit against the Home minister withdrawn.

Amir Bazli's counsel Karpal Singh says his client felt intimidated. Karpal said that based on this, they have now decided to cancel whatever transpired between Amir Bazli and Ahmad Zahid in the presence of the mediator.
"Ahmad Zahid did not come to the court on that day as an ordinary litigant but as a minister. He was escorted by police outriders and was accompanied by security personnel and about 30 supporters. All these were elements of intimidation," he said.

A civil suit filed by a businessman against Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for an alleged assault was resolved today with both parties agreeing to withdraw their suit and counter-claim.

Ahmad Zahid applied to strike out the suit on grounds that it was trivial, but was dismissed by the High Court and Court of Appeal in April 2010 and March 2012, respectively. Ahmad Zahid filed a counter-claim against Amir Bazli for damages.

Amir claimed that he was attacked because he had a romantic relationship with Zahid’s daughter. He said several men took him from a petrol station to Zahid’s home, where the minister and others hit him with hard objects.
“I was beaten badly,” he said. “Until today, my left eye is not fully functional. I even have difficulty opening my eye in the morning after all these years.
“They beat me with rocks and other objects. They even threatened to put me in a gunny sack and bury me.”
Amir is claiming the cost of his medical treatment as well as special, general, exemplary and aggravated damages.

In his statement of defence, Ahmad Zahid, then deputy information minister, denied that he ever delivered any punch on Amir Bazli causing injury to his face, claiming that it was Amir Bazli's own concoction.

In his statement of defence, Zahid said his daughter was married to another person and that Amir had abducted her and her two-year-old child. He denied that either he, his son or son-in-law had attacked Amir or threatened to put him in a sack and bury him.
Ahmad Zahid filed a counter-claim against Amir Bazli for damages for considerable distress, embarrassment, anxiety suffered by him and also damages for libel over publication of the alleged incident after Amir Bazli had gone to the media.
