People's Prince Tunku Abdul Jalil Dies At 25 After Bravely Battling Against Cancer

Prince of Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim passed away after battling with liver cancer at the Royal Ward of Sultanah Aminah Hospital at Johor Bahru about 7.11pm on Saturday, 5 December

Members of the Johor Royal family were at the young prince's bedside when the 25-year-old Tunku Jalil breathed his last, The Star Online reported.

Born in Johor Baru on 5 July 1990 to Sultan Ibrahim and Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, the Tunku Laksamana of Johor graduated in Zoology studies from a university in the UK and had worked as a zoo keeper in Singapore Zoo for about a year and at the London Zoo for two years.

The fourth child of the Sultan of Johor, Tunku Abdul Jalil became the first member of the Johor Royal household to serve in the police force after completing his police training for nine months. As a commissioned police inspector, he held the post of the Royal Chief of Staff of the Johor Palace in October this year.

He was diagnosed with cancer and had undergone a liver transplant in China. In his memory, the Sultan of Johor has set up the Tunku Laksamana Cancer Foundation to assist cancer patients in the country.

Due to his helping nature and friendly ways to Johoreans of all races, the 25-year-old Prince was fondly known as "People's Prince"

The Johor Council of Royal Court President, Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli said the remains of Tunku Abdul Jalil would be brought to the Istana Besar Johor tonight, 5 December, and would be placed at a special room in the palace. His remains will be buried at the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum in Johor Bahru on 6 December.

The bathing and kafan ceremony will take place at about 7am tomorrow and the remains of Tunku Jalil will lay in state at the Istana Besar Siggahsana Room. Members of the public who wished to pay their last respects could do so between 9am and 11.30am Sunday at the Istana Besar Siggahsana Room.

A semi-state funeral will be held for Tunku Abdul Jalil on Sunday

After members of the public have paid their last respects to Tunku Jalil at Istana Besar from 9am to 11.30am, a hearse bearing his remains will pass through a 3 km route from Istana Besar to the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum where his remains will be buried.

A three-day mourning period would begin for the public and civil servants in Johor starting Sunday, 6 December. Whereas, the members of the Royal family will observe a Seven-day mourning period.
