During the interview, Dr. Mahathir was grilled by Al Jazeera's UpFront host Mehdi Hasan about corruption during his leadership, to which the former PM admitted that while there was corruption when he was the PM, it has reached a new level now under Najib

"There is corruption in every country. It is the level that counts. I admit that during my time, there was corruption. But none on the scale that Najib is involved in, running into billion and billions - tens of billions of ringgit. That has never been done or heard of in this country," Dr. Mahathir told Hasan.

However, when asked about the wrongdoings he committed when in power, Mahathir defended himself saying that he is powerless now and if indeed the accusations against him are true, the government can easily haul him up to court.

Speaking about his campaign to oust Najib, Dr. M said that Najib "has done a lot of things which are actually wrong, and, as a result, he has put the country in a very bad position." He added, "If Najib is there, this country will go to the dogs." Watch him speak so here:
