Wake Up Call is a peaceful collaborative global movement for change, which is centered around one main day of action. It is a movement initiated by the youth. On 21 February 2012, millions of people, all over the world, uniting under one goal, one idea, to send one statement on the same day, “This is a Wake Up Call.
Wake Up Call Malaysia aims to address brain drain issue in Malaysia.
Brain Drain touches upon the core of Malaysia's aspiration to become a high income nation. Human capital is the bedrock of the high-income economy. Sustained and skill-intensive growth will require talent going forward. For Malaysia to stand success in its journey to high income, it will need to develop, attract and retain talent. Brain drain does not appear to square with this objective: Malaysia needs talent, but talent seems to be leaving. A recent report by World Bank showed that 2 out of 10 Malaysian graduates will leave our country. If this scenario prolongs, it will be very hard for Malaysia to achieve its vision 2020. It has also been announced that Malaysia will phase out JPA PILN beginning this year to save the soaring cost of educating our best talent, but end up not serving our country.
Hence, Wake Up Call Malaysia aims to help the related government authorities like Talent Corporation Malaysia, Public Service Department, and PEMANDU to resolve this brain drain issue. Our objective is to help Malaysia retain the best local talents and nurture more first class citizen to realize our Vision 2020. We aim to survey 1,000 diaspora and scholars abroad on this brain drain issue to find out the root of the problem and get their input on how to improve this deteriorating situation. Then we will compile our findings along with constructive recommendations to address this problem and present it to related government officials on the day 21.2.12, all by the collective power of the youth.
