Great news, Melakans! Starting this year, Melaka will be the first state in Malaysia to officially observe a three-day public holiday for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

That means more time for celebrations, balik kampung trips, and, of course, indulging in all the Raya goodies without worrying about work the next day.

This year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Melaka falls from 31 March to 2 April, giving residents an extended five-day break when combined with the weekend on 29 and 30 March.

According to Astro Awani, the Melaka state government proposed this change in 2024, seeking Cabinet approval to extend the Hari Raya holiday from two days to three. The proposal has since been approved, according to the Melakan government website.

However, this isn't an extra holiday — it simply replaces the Awal Ramadan public holiday, allowing for a longer Raya celebration instead

Awal Ramadan, which falls on 2 March, will remain a public holiday only in Johor and Kedah. In previous years, Melaka also observed it as a holiday.

Enjoy the extended break, Melakans!

Here's a list of other states that enjoy more or fewer public holidays:
