Family Of Couple Killed In Johor Crash Says Their Photos Are Being Used To Advertise Funeral Services

The family of a couple who died in a fatal road accident in Johor has spoken out after discovering that their parents' photos and accident footage were allegedly being used online to advertise funeral services

The victims were identified as 55-year-old Tan Jian Ping and his wife, 54-year-old Lin Ya Li, who were killed in a crash near the Tuas Checkpoint link bridge on 5 June.

Speaking to China Press on Sunday, 7 June, the couple's eldest daughter said she was shocked to find social media posts using her parents' wedding photos alongside videos of the accident.

According to her, the posts also included contact details for a local funeral service provider.

She stressed that her family did not engage the funeral service being promoted and believes the incident was being used to attract business.

After discovering the posts, she contacted the individual responsible and requested that they be removed.

She added that if similar incidents occur again, the family may consider pursuing legal action.

The family has also warned the public against unauthorised fundraising efforts

The daughter also cautioned members of the public to be wary of anyone claiming to raise funds on behalf of her late parents.

She explained that her parents had been active members of the Malaysian Workers Association during their lifetime and that the association is currently the only organisation publicly collecting bereavement contributions for the family.

She warned that any other individual or group claiming to raise money using the tragedy should be treated with suspicion.

While declining to discuss details of the accident, the daughter said she was saddened by speculation circulating online

She said her parents regularly travelled along the same route on their way home and described them as law-abiding individuals.

As a result, she rejected suggestions that they may have been speeding before the collision.

Friends and relatives who attended the wake also described the couple as kind-hearted people who had built strong relationships within the community over the years.

More than 30 relatives and friends were reportedly present at the funeral parlour at Tiong Hua Memorial Park in Johor Bahru to pay their final respects.

The couple are survived by three children.

What happened?

The accident occurred at about 8pm on 5 June, approximately 0.6km from the exit of the Tuas Checkpoint link bridge.

According to reports, Tan and Lin were riding a motorcycle when it allegedly crashed into the rear of a trailer lorry.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
