Two teenage girls were arrested in Tumpat, Kelantan, on Sunday, 19 April, after being caught acting as scouts for a syndicate smuggling illegal immigrants into the country

The suspects, aged 17 and 18, were intercepted at 5.05am while riding a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle, according to Berita Harian.

Their arrest followed the detention of a 24-year-old individual just five minutes earlier at 5am, who was found transporting nine undocumented immigrants in a Proton Iswara Aeroback.

Checks on the vehicle revealed six Bangladeshi men who possessed passports but lacked valid visit passes, along with three Myanmar nationals who had no identification documents.

General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said one of the teenagers confessed to being paid RM150 to monitor the route for the smuggling operation

Analysis of her mobile phone revealed direct communication with the main smuggler. The other teenager claimed she was merely accompanying her friend during the scouting mission.

The nine immigrants were believed to have entered Malaysia illegally via the Thai border and were being transported from Kampung Laut to Wakaf Bharu

The driver, who tested positive for methamphetamine, admitted that the operation was coordinated by an individual known as "Jef" in Thailand, who paid him RM100 for every immigrant successfully transported.
