An annual prize will award $45,000 to a playwright in honor of Oscar-winning American actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died this month from a suspected heroin overdose.

No definitive cause of death has been given, as police try to piece together his final hours using surveillance video and inspecting computers found in his home. Police say the heroin found in Hoffman's apartment was not mixed with the synthetic narcotic fentanyl.
He is reported to have withdrawn a total of $1,200 (£735) in six visits to a cash machine the day before his death.
