After almost four delays, 'Amityville: The Awakening' finally breaks its curse and is hitting Malaysian cinemas this month

This will be the sixth film about the Amityville horror story to be shown in cinemas worldwide, starring the likes of Bella Thorne, Cameron Monaghan, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Speaking of horror, 'Amityville: The Awakening' experienced the horrors of multiple postponements of its release date since 2015. It was supposed to be released on January 2015, but was pushed back four times for two years. We finally heard that it'll get a Malaysian release this 17 August.

Strange things then start to happen in the house: Belle starts having terrible nightmares, and James miraculously comes out from his coma. Belle then did some research on the house only to find out that they've moved into the haunted Amityville house.

The Amityville horror film series is based on an actual haunted house in USA

The house on 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville is home to the DeFeo family back in the 70s. Ronald DeFeo Jr., the oldest child, murdered his whole family one night in November 1974. He initially denied any involvement in the killings, but later confessed that he was the one who shot all six family members in the house.

A year after the murders, the house was occupied by the Lutz family. It was then that the house was rumoured to be haunted as the Lutz family members reported strange sightings and feeling a demonic presence in the house. They moved out of the house after 28 days.

The Lutz family case went on to inspire the original cult classic, 'The Amityville Horror', and its subsequent movies. The case was also mentioned in 'The Conjuring 2'.

The hauntings were so bad that famous paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren (their lives inspired the 'The Conjuring' series), were involved in researching it. They also managed to capture a photo of the ghost of the youngest DeFeo child, who was killed by his eldest brother in that very house.

Scary, right?
