There's an article that’s gone viral in the past week claiming that Lorde‘s actual acceptance speech at The Grammy’s was cut and suppressed. So, how true are the claims made in the article?

But before we get to the FACT OR FAKE analysis, let's have a look at what you will see if you search "Lorde Grammy" on Twitter:

Earlier this week, a "news" organization posted a story titled "Clipping Queen Bee’s Wings: Lorde’s real Grammy speech suppressed," in which a "reporter" named Iggy Swind explained that:

Lorde, rather than thanking her fans in the typical award acceptance speech fashion, delivered a "scathing indictment of global capitalism."

But, because big brother is always watching, the Grammys telecast had a one-minute delay and switched to a rehearsal take that had been shot earlier. Later, the same "news" organization posted the transcript in length, which you can read here.

The article has brought about a stampede of Internet-folk, all calling for a glimpse of Lorde's real Grammy acceptance speech, because the one on the TV was apparently a pre-record, which the live broadcast switched to last-minute

The transcript of the speech on the same website states the speech included communistic claims such as: "Planet Earth is run by psychopaths that hide behind slick marketing, ‘freedom’ propaganda and ‘economic growth’ rhetoric, while they construct a global system of corporatized totalitarianism."

The canny double-Grammy winner supposedly went on: "As American journalist Chris Hedges has identified, a corporate totalitarian core thrives inside a fictitious democratic shell. This core yields an ‘inverted’ totalitarian state that few recognize because it does not look like the Orwellian world of Nineteen Eighty-four."

"This corporate totalitarian core is spreading outward from America. Planet Earth is being rapidly militarized by the world’s major and significant states, including their police forces. Meanwhile, state surveillance is becoming universal and torture is outsourced to gulags."

The claims made in the article have seen Lorde fans take to Reddit and the Facebook to demand the truth

Lorde superfan Alis Jacob confirmed "the speech has been 'obliterated' from the net .....original has been cropped out of context" before pleading with others "pls. find original asap".

Melanie Leduc appeared to know more than most when she confirmed "NOT satire or fake folks"; but then the internet's very own Stoian Mădălin waded in to confirm everyone's worst fears, writing: "I think it's true. Google "real news" about this and see how videos are unavailable or cropped and short".

So, how true are the claims made in the article? Is the article a FACT or FAKE?

FAKE: Because believe it or not, even though it appeared on a website and is in an article form and looks like it is a real story from a real news organization with reporters, it actually is NOT A REAL STORY. It's a FAKE story.

The article, labelled under 'Satire, sarcasm and snoofs', also quotes fake and made-up sources such as "New Zealand university professor of the History of Nearly Every Hierarchical Civilization Since Sumeria, Dr. Harry Hiveman".

What's more is that the reporter's bio, which you'll find at the end of the story, is the following:

While the speech is NOT TRUE, and no video of her "real speech" actually exists, it has still fooled the Internet people into believing that Lorde's speech was suppressed and removed from online sources

What's available is this less than 3 minute video uploaded on The GRAMMYs YouTube channel. You can watch what Lorde actually said, here:

Let's just take this moment to remember that not everything you read on the internet is fact. Unless you read it on SAYS.
