In response to PAS Youth's protest against the former Disney star's upcoming concert in KL, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said that the state government has no reason to ban the event as long as the organisers adhere to all the requirements set by local authorities.

He also added that there is no issue holding the concert in the month of Syawal, as every month should be equally respected.

He also advised PAS Youth to refrain from getting too excited over Gomez's "sexiness" as it is "God's creation and subjective"

“(One's) sexiness is God's creation. What do we do? It is God's creation.

“There are people who are sexy, there are those who are not. There are people who are beautiful and there are those who are not. It is normal but don't get excited about it.

“I’m more excited about the songs and lyrics," he told reporters after attending the Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations today.

Meanwhile, MCA Youth's Chong Sin Woon called for more police presence at the concert to ensure the safety of concertgoers in the event that PAS members hold protests at the venue

Chong also called out PAS Youth for their bias against Western artistes' concerts in Malaysia, whom they deem will cause "erosion of faith" as well as cinemas for being the "cause of social ills", when local artistes also hold live performances on stage.

“The issue is identical, people performing on stage are deemed to cause erosion of faith among the audience," Chong said in a statement, adding that such protests show that PAS "seeks to deprive non-Muslims of their constitutional right to enjoy concerts."

DAP Youth has similar sentiments, calling PAS Youth's last-minute protest a "cheap publicity stunt" with nothing constructive to offer to Malaysians as going to a concert will not actually damage a person's faith

"PAS Youth should acknowledge that Malaysians are able to think and evaluate for themselves any form of entertainment. A person won't lose his or her faith just by attending a concert.

"There is no need for PAS Youth to intervene in private matters of Malaysians. And they need to respect that," DAP Youth executive secretary Muhammad Shakir Ameer said in a statement.

"When the organisers sought permission for her ( Gomez) to hold her concert here, PAS did not protest until the very last minute. Isn't this a cheap publicity stunt?

"PAS Youth should have made known its objections prior to the Home Ministry's approval, rather than protest at the very last minute, when tickets have been sold and thousands of ringgit spent by promoters for the concert, which is next week," the statement says.

19 JULY: Malaysian Selenators are no doubt looking forward to Selena Gomez's first ever concert in KL, which is slated to happen next Monday, 25 July at Malawati Indoor Stadium

You can get your tickets here.

But if PAS Youth has their way, the concert shouldn't even happen at all. The party claims that the American pop singer is too "sexy" and her upcoming concert tarnishes the Muslim month of celebration.

According to PAS Youth missionary bureau chairman Hafez Sabri, Gomez's concert on 25 July coincides with the 20th day of Syawal and promotes hedonism - the pursuit of pleasure and sensual self-indulgence - among Malaysian youths.

"The appearance of an American-born artist who has been synonymous with a sexy appearance would tarnish the nobleness of the month of Syawal that is celebrated with gratitude and penitence by Muslims and further promote the culture of hedonism among the young generation in this country," he wrote in a press statement posted on Facebook yesterday, 18 July.

"It is PAS Youth's priority and responsibility to make sure there are no elements that can corrupt Malaysia's younger generation. Hence, PAS Youth is committed to condemn the organisation of a concert like this."

The party also urged the Selangor Islamic Religious Council to formally lodge a complaint against Gomez, saying that it will erode the faith, deeds, and morals of Muslims who attend her concert

Hafez also urged the government and authorities to be stricter and more vigilant before granting concert permits to event organisers.

"We urge to government to refer to and enforce the entertainment guidelines that were published by JAKIM and certified by the National Fatwa Committee last year when it comes to green-lighting concerts," he wrote.

Previously, PAS Youth had also protested against several concerts by international artistes such as Rihanna, Avril Lavigne, and Beyoncé in 2009 as well as Adam Lambert in 2010

Rihanna and Beyoncé's concerts were subsequently cancelled, Rihanna's due to personal reasons while Beyoncé's because she reportedly refuse to cover up and censor her show. It was also widely speculated that Beyoncé has been banned from entering Malaysia.

While Avril Lavigne and Adam Lambert's concerts went on as scheduled, PAS Youth staged protests and handed out flyers to attendees outside the concert venues.
