24-year-old Ines said, "“I can’t believe this, this is my first venture into film-making. When we were watching all the finalists’ films, I was thinking those films are really good compared to mine so I kept telling myself that I would not be winning anything tonight."

Managing director Joe Sidek was happy with the turnout especially since this was this first Tropfest SEA.

The Theme For Tropfest SEA 2014 Is 'Rice' And All Featured Films Are To Be Specifically Made For Tropfest And Not Exceeding 7 Minutes

Free to all, Tropfest began in Sydney in 1993 as a tiny, grassroots film festival, but has since gone global with spin-off editions in New York, Abu Dhabi and Taranaki in New Zealand. There are some rules common to all of them: all films must have been made specifically for the Tropfest and not exceed seven minutes. There are also no budget or format restrictions — and any resident or citizen of the region can enter.
