[VIDEO] Admit It. You Never Thought 'Power Rangers' Could Ever Be This Dark
The Power Rangers series you knew as a kid will never be the same! Note: Short film contains adult content.
Remember this bunch of weaponised high school kids recruited to fight intergalactic bad guys?
And each time they uttered "it's morphin' time", sheer chills of excitement ran through every 90s child
While fans of Power Rangers are eagerly waiting its movie release in 2016, someone decided to make a darker, grittier short film of the heroes
Film producer Adi Shankar just released a short 'Power Rangers' film directed by veteran music video director Joseph Kahn
It stars Katee Sackhoff as the Pink Ranger Kimberly being brutally interrogated by turncoat ranger Rocky (James Van Der Beek)
Rocky is trying to discover the whereabouts of Green Ranger Tommy, who appears grizzled and battle-scarred — the only ranger left standing after the rest of the team was mysteriously murdered
Basically, if you've ever wanted to see the 'Power Rangers' snorting drugs, firing guns, and taking on highly choreographed knife fights, this fan film is for you
We're just going to leave this intro right here, spoiler-free, because there's a twist at the end that is beyond brilliant
After watching this video you'll realise these aren't the same 'Power Rangers' you grew up with. Watch the full video here:
Adi Shankar, who is known for specialising in R rated violent films in the action and crime genres, said that he made this reboot as an extreme take on Hollywood's obsession with dark and gritty reboots
“The intention was not only to make it dark and gritty but make it even darker and grittier than you could possibly imagine, hence the brains, the blood and the violence and the sex.”
hitfix.com“I think the trick that I really wanted to do with this was to make that dark and gritty version that everybody keeps talking about, but really do it,” Kahn told HitFix. “Really see if I could accomplish it with essentially a really incredible incredibly silly property.”
