An Australian woman, Jodi Rose, has taken her desire for the ‘strong and silent’-type to a new extreme when she married a 600-year-old bridge in France.

Jodi Rose, an Australian artist who travels the world recording the vibrations of bridge cables for her “Singing Bridges” music project, knew it was true love the first time she laid eyes on Le Pont du Diable, a 600-year-old bridge in Southern France.
Ms Rose, or Mrs Le Pont du Diable, has spent the past decade travelling the world recording the vibrations in bridge cables with contact microphones and using them to create experimental music.

After visiting dozens of bridges all over the world for her Singing Bridges musical project, she decided this was 'The One'. Although her new husband may struggle to express his feelings, newlywed Jodi said ‘his being is very present, and I feel at peace in his strong embrace.’

‘He understands that I love other bridges – and men – ours is a love that embraces the vagaries of life, as materialised in the swirling currents of the river that flows beneath his magnificent body,’ Rose wrote on her website.

"[He] is everything I could desire in a husband - sturdy, trustworthy, sensual, kind and handsome," Rose wrote. "There is longevity in the arch of his back, he has stood for 600 years and he will stand for 600 more."
“While I respect those whose romantic and sexual feelings are oriented towards objects, mine is a symbolic affair, a pagan / animist view of the spiritual vibration in everything,” she wrote.
Their union is not legally recognised in France, but Rose claims their marriage is as strong as any other. ‘This is not a decision I undertake lightly, just as our curves complement, we truly bring joy to each other, and the strength of his pylons will always carry me home.’

In Brief: about the bridge Le Pont du Diable, which translates to “The Devil’s Bridge”
Le Pont du Diable, which translates to “The Devil’s Bridge” in French, was first erected in the 12th century and has stood firm in Céret over the river Tech ever since.
It is one of many bridges in France referred to by that name, and one of several “Pont du Diables” in Hérault alone. Guess it’s like the bridge equivalent of being named Guillaume in France: Weird sounding, but surprisingly common.
