When Marieke Voorsluijs's son hit puberty and stopped wanting to cuddle with her, the textile enthusiast decided to knit a life-sized version of her son

This mother has invented a simple solution to help parents cope with their children pulling away as they go through puberty. And luckily, all dear old mom and dad will need is a ball of yarn, some knitting needles and a lot of extra time on their hands.

Marieke, who works as a designer for a knitting shop in Amsterdam was inspired to create a doppelgänger of her son when he began to ask for more personal space

“We used to cuddle all the time, but those days are becoming scarce. We laugh a lot about the stretching gap between his needs and mine. Him needing more of his own space and my covert needs to keep on smothering him with maternal love. I am a textiles designer and he often helps me and has great creative ideas. So we started to fantasize how we could visualize this puberty gap. So I suggested to make a cuddly version of him," said Marieka.

According to Mashable, the replica is actually a wearable costume rather than a fully stuffed toy. So, maximum cuddling can still only be done if the son dons his yarn likeness.

Erm... don't really see the resemblance.

The yarn boy is not a fully stuffed son — it's a wearable suit — so the true cuddle ability of it is still dependent on one of Voorsluijs' sons wearing it.

We wondered how long did she take to knit this. To her son if you're reading this, please pay more attention to your mother!
