[VIDEO] M'sian Chinese Stuns The Internet With His Singing Of 'Cinta Sampai Mati' In Car
The TikTok user, who uploaded the clip, told SAYS that his friend Ben is dating a Malay and will always sing 'lagu jiwang' (emotional love songs) whenever they fight.
Everybody loves singing in a car. With a couple of friends, it's officially a carpool karaoke session!
But a TikTok video that went viral recently shows more than that.
The video shows a Malaysian Chinese flawlessly nailing a Bahasa Indonesian song with a wide emotional range that can even rival the original singer.
Earlier this week, TikTok user @abeyjoe0 uploaded a video of his friend singing Cinta Sampai Mati by Indonesian singer and YouTuber Raffa Affar.
The song is currently a popular 'sound' on the video-sharing platform.
"Karoke lagu Cina ✖; Karoke lagu Melayu ✔ (Singing Chinese songs ✖; singing Malay songs ✔)," read the caption in the video.
In the post, @abeyjoe0 wrote that he has a Chinese friend, and when the friend is feeling 'broken' while listening to a hit song, all he can do is just play along.
In the 37-second video, it shows the karaoke singer serenading not just the people in the car, but also an individual in another vehicle
The man with tattoos is holding a cup of sundae while singing his heart out.
The chorus that he is singing narrates how much the singer wants his love interest to know that he has prayed for the whole night that they could be together and that his love for her is eternal and loyal.
Speaking to SAYS, @abeyjoe0 said his good friend — named Ben — is dating a Malay woman
"Yes, it's true. His girlfriend is Malay. He is a good friend of mine," said @abeyjoe0 in a reply to this SAYS writer.
"Every time they have an argument, Ben will sing emotional love songs."
He said that they are from Kuala Selangor, and the video was taken last weekend.
At the time of writing, the video has received over 1.3 million views and 111,000 likes
Thousands of netizens were impressed by Ben's singing.
"So cute! And he sounds eloquent," a TikTok user commented.
"Melting, abang. Not me, but the ice cream," a netizen said in jest.
"He has a great voice, so cute," a person said, while another joked, "Be patient, ice cream. He is currently 'broken'."
Several netizens shared that their Chinese friends also love Bahasa Melayu or Bahasa Indonesia songs.
"I have a male Chinese friend. When we go to karaoke, he would surely sing Isabella (by Fenomena). He sang it without a Chinese slang," said a TikTok user.
"My former boss is a Chinese and he loves (to listen to) songs by Ella (also known as Nor Zila Aminuddin)," read a comment.
"My Chinese friend always asked me to sing Sandiwara Cinta. So annoying," a netizen said.
