Fu Wa, the male panda, is now called Xing Xing which means Prosperity, while female panda Feng Yi is Liang Liang or Pretty.

Malaysia today welcomed the giant pandas Feng Yi and Fu Wa, which arrived via a special MASKargo A330 aircraft about 8am. The pair is on loan from China for 10 years. Fu Wa and Feng Yi will be quarantined for 30 days before they go on display in Zoo Negara.

Yang and Li, who took care of Feng Yi and Fu Wa when they were in the nursery in 2007 and during their quarantine since February this year, will stay in Kuala Lumpur with them until they get accustomed to their new home.

China has postponed the transfer of two giant pandas to Malaysia out of respect for the families of passengers on missing Flight 370, a government minister said Friday. The Malaysia Airlines plane that disappeared on March 8 had 239 people on board, 153 of them Chinese.

On the final lap of their preparations, they have already started greeting each other in Mandarin, saying “ni hao (hello)” in anticipation of their furry guests from China. Zoo Negara deputy director Dr Muhammad Danial Felix said the zoo would have a trial run tomorrow on how to get the pandas into their enclosure.

Visitors to the enclosure, however, will only be able to see the pandas one month later, after the animals adapt to the new environment. Dr Muhammad Danial said visitors would have to pay an additional fee to enter the enclosure to help the zoo with the upkeep of the animals.
