This year, Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) is celebrating its 25th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the organisation's years of service to the Malaysian community

Since their establishment in 1997, PTPTN has had one goal — to ensure that no student gives up their higher education pursuits due to financial constraints.

Besides managing education loans and collecting loan repayments, the organisation also provides an education savings scheme known as Simpan SSPN to help parents start saving early for their children's future education.

In addition to helping Malaysians further their education, the facilities offered by PTPTN can help them raise their standard of living, leading to them becoming important assets and human capital for the country.

Coming from a B40 family, Chen Yoon Sean had a heartwarming reason for applying for a PTPTN loan — wanting to ease his parents' financial burden

"I have two younger siblings, both studying in private middle schools. Hence, other than paying back the mortgage and other fees, my parents have to support my tuition fee as well as both of my younger siblings' school fees. I decided to apply for a PTPTN loan as I wanted to ease my parents' burden on supporting me and my siblings' education," the now 24-year-old shared.

With the PTPTN loan and the partial scholarship he got from his university, Yoon Sean was able to cover most of the costs required for his studies.

He chose to pursue a degree in Software Engineering at Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, and graduated in 2020.

Being able to focus on his studies without worrying about his family's financial situation definitely had a positive impact on Yoon Sean's university life

Not only was he able to achieve good academic results, the peace of mind even enabled him to delve into his other interests without feeling guilty.

One such interest is music, which is something Yoon Sean has been pursuing since his high school days. During university, he was active in orchestral activities, travelling and performing at various locations across Malaysia and Taiwan.

Plus, he even participated in multiple hackathon competitions.

In Yoon Sean's opinion, PTPTN is definitely playing a major part in developing the nation's human capital, and he himself is an example of this

After graduating from university, Yoon Sean nabbed himself a job at Appspace Inc. as a software development engineer, where he gained his proudest achievement to date.

"I completed a challenging project that involves working together with developers from foreign countries. The project had a significant impact in the company while also having high risk. The chance of issues occurring for the project were very high, but in the end, we managed to complete the project with almost no issues. Me and my teammates demonstrated great effort and teamwork in that project," he explained.

With PTPTN having helped Yoon Sean achieve his ambitions and dreams, he plans to give back to the community and do his best to help others

"I am aware that there are students who are having financial difficulties and require the PTPTN loan to pursue higher education. Hence, I'm making an effort to prioritise paying off my PTPTN loan so that another student out there will be able to get the loan.

"In the future, I plan to invest in local businesses and corporations to support the economy of Malaysia. I also plan to give back to the community by periodically donating part of my earnings to charity to help those who are in need," he shared.

Believing that he wouldn't be where he is today without PTPTN, Yoon Sean encourages others students who are in a similar position to reach out to the organisation

"I would like to advise fellow readers who are also struggling to pursue higher education due to financial difficulties to apply for a PTPTN loan. The loan interest is very low, which brings almost no risk to the students in my opinion, as paying back the loan slowly after graduation is definitely an option.

"Also, PTPTN opens up more education options for students, in terms of choosing their own ideal university. With the support of the PTPTN loan, students who initially had limited options are able to pursue better quality education as well.

"I would like to express my gratitude towards those who introduced and facilitated PTPTN loans in Malaysia," he said.

Meanwhile, 35-year-old Alan was attracted to PTPTN's Simpan SSPN because of its competitive dividend rate

The system analyst got to know about Simpan SSPN through Boost e-wallet, and then went on to open an account online.

Having learned the importance of saving up early for the sake of his family and children, he is grateful to PTPTN for offering a simple and effective platform for loans and savings.

"PTPTN plays a very important role for students who want to continue their studies at university. With PTPTN loans, it will encourage the extension of higher education and nurture professionals in various fields," he said.

Thanks, PTPTN, for supporting the dreams of young Malaysians who aim to complete their tertiary education!

For 25 years and counting, PTPTN has done their best to help Malaysians pursue further education via their various services. This includes loans support, giving Malaysians financial education through Simpan SSPN, Kelab Simpanan Pendidikan, and more.

Until July 2022, PTPTN has helped more than 3.67 million students, with the amount of loans given out totaling up to RM67.03 billion. Additionally, they have also recorded RM12.65 billion worth of Simpan SSPN deposits from over 5.5 million accounts.

In an effort to improve online services, PTPTN launched the myPTPTN app, which allows you to review loan statements, loan repayments, and Simpan SSPN statements, as well as open accounts, make Simpan SSPN deposits, and do salary deductions. The app also makes direct debit applications for loan repayments and Simpan SSPN accounts so much easier.

You can download the myPTPTN app via the App Store, Google Play, or HUAWEI App Gallery.
