Roshan and Shinna belong to two different racial ethnicities...

...they also belong to each other.

Roshan works as a chiropractor while Shinna is an optometrist, an independent primary health care professional for eyes. They are part of an 'Interracial Documentary' by filmmaker Shahrul Hamdan.

Speaking to Sadho from SAYS, Shahrul says he embarked on this project to interview ordinary Malaysians who are in Interracial Relationship or have experienced it in some form personally.

"I'm very interested in finding out what are the kind of compromises they make in order to live together," Shahrul told SAYS.

He added that he hopes to find out and shed light on the multiracial ties in Malaysia and how different communities and culture are integrating with each other and co-existing together on a very personal level.

They begin by sharing their experiences of how when they started dating, they feared what their family would say, but it turned out easier than they had expected. "It's all in your mind," mused Shinna.

Shahrul, who himself is mixed-race, his mum is Chinese and his dad is Malay, told us that with all the current racial tension going on in Malaysia, he hopes to open up the general public's mindset about different races and their experiences through his project.

He added that he doesn't tinker around with the views of his interracial interviewees, as he would like to capture the raw views and not influence them in any way.
