[VIDEO] Mum Of 5 & First-Time Parent Get Together To Discuss Their Pregnancy Experiences
As a first-time mum, you may feel overwhelmed right now, but remember that it's completely natural to feel nervous about motherhood.
Are you expecting your first child?
If you are, congratulations! You may feel overwhelmed right now, but remember that it's completely natural to feel nervous about motherhood.
From experiences that come with pregnancy to giving birth, first-time mothers have a lot to navigate. But the best part about this journey is when you finally carry your firstborn in your arms — you'll realise that it was all worth it! <3
In collaboration with Prudential, we got Laila, a mother of five, and expecting mother Danielle Chong, better known as @damnyoudan, to talk about motherhood
The duo sat down together to play mulut itik, a paper game that many of us played during our childhood, and answer pregnancy-related questions.
Watch the video below to see what went down:
Danielle first shared that she discovered she had a high risk of giving birth to a child with Down syndrome during one of her checkups
Danielle: "If they [have] Down syndrome, what can I do to make sure that they have like, the best care? After we got the results, the doctor said it was a false positive. If you're telling me that there is a plan right now that can actually also let me think a step further of like, what to prepare for, what I can be protected with, I'll be like, sign me up."
Laila also talked about her experience dealing with postpartum depression, which still gets her emotional to this day
Laila: "It was a lot of things happening at the same time, 'cause it was my first child. And I was really young — I was 21 years old, so I was really not experienced."
When it came to choosing between a C-section and natural birth, Danielle shared that it didn't matter as long as the baby was delivered safely
Danielle: "If I must, I'm open to a C-section or a planned C-section, or even an emergency C-section, because I feel like at the end of the day, the baby is all that matters, right? Of course, you as well. But you just want to make sure that if the doctors say, 'Oh, you have to go [get] a C-section right now,' then okay lah."
Laila also shared that one of her biggest regrets while she was pregnant 14 years ago was not investing in pregnancy insurance
Laila: "Actually, my first child was born in the intensive care unit (ICU), so we were in the hospital for about 10 days. Insurance would have come in handy then. But I didn't know. I didn't know that it was a thing."
