Inspired by the way barnacles cling to a ship's hull and conceptualised by Australian module-home designers Modscape, this five-storey home hangs to a cliff, and was imagined for the diverse Australian landscape. It is known as the Cliff House.

According to their website, the design of the home "is a theoretical response to clients who have approached Modscape to explore design options for extreme parcels of coastal land in Australia"

The company creates homes using modules, with a steel frame and structurally insulated panels, in a factory before assembling on site. The modules can be used to create a huge variety of configurations to suit any space.

The design uses engineered steel pins that drive into the rock, thereby keeping the home attached to the cliff. Like all amazing environment-aware architecture, this home is made to become one with the cliff, rather than a disconnected object sitting on top.

Looking out over the ocean, the home has three bedrooms, a living area, kitchen, and gigantic floor-to-ceiling windows that display a breathtaking or vertigo-inducing view of the horizon

"How do I get in?" is no doubt the first question one would ask before buying such a home. This would be through the top-level garage. You can then move between the floors by the use of a lift.

The top story has a patio and two-car garage and there's even a bottom open-air deck area with a jacuzzi and barbecue. All the levels are connected by stairs and an elevator.

You should dispose of any over-the-top furniture before moving into this home. Although it might initially feel like you are living in a cave, the designers have kept the furnishings simple to accentuate the ridiculous view.

"Internally, the living spaces feature minimalistic furnishings to ensure that the transcendent views of the ocean and the unique spatial experience of the location remain the integral focal point of the design," the website said.
