These Star Wars Figurines Are The Most Epic Pewter Trophies From Royal Selangor
A unique Star Wars pewter collection by Royal Selangor to commemorate the famed pop culture phenomenon and the uber successful movie franchise.
Pewter souvenirs are generally not too 'hot' as chosen gifts among 20-somethings - the perception of traditional designs could be why.
That might all change with this new Star Wars collection that is so tempting, you would buy it in pewter and guard it with your life.
As the 'Force' would have it, Royal Selangor in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia is currently in the midst of immortalising iconic Star Wars characters and scenes in pewter
The collaboration between Royal Selangor and The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia will see the former producing "Star Wars"-themed merchandise for the next three years. The first lineup will be launched on 21 August 2015, which will include Limited Edition figurines and collectibles such as cuff-links, flash drives, tumblers, and goblets.
You're thinking, why didn't this come sooner, right?
Here's a behind the scenes look at the figurine of Princess Leia, perfectly sculpted to achieve her feminine curves, with her pleated hair placed on her right, as was always the case in the movie.
Not just that, the talented designers and sculptors at Royal Selangor even ensured that the fine details of Leia's bikini-style costume and jewellery were carefully sculpted based on specifications. They, after all, had to justify one of the most successful movie franchises of all time that has created a worldwide popular culture phenomenon.
Here's Darth Vader receiving final touches. As you can see, special attention was paid to the finer details such as the control panel on the chest and mask to ensure they were accurately reproduced.
Moreover, as it's quite evident, the sculptors took extra care in ensuring that the pewter parts that formed Darth Vader's figurine such as the torso, cloak and head were cast separately to allow the molten metal to expand and cool proportionately without distorting the features imprinted on them. It seriously cannot get better than this!
Earlier in July, when the collaboration was announced, Yong Yoon Li, Executive Director of Royal Selangor, expressed his joy and honour over the chance to immortalise the characters from this incredible franchise, adding that, "Star Wars has made a huge cultural impact on at least two generations of moviegoers."
And as the 'Force' is strong within Royal Selangor, the 130-year-old business has also received the rights to distribute the Star Wars collection in several other countries, including Australia, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China and the UK.
According to details provided in Royal Selangor's website, the Star Wars collection will be available in the following countries and online at the following dates:
. Malaysia, from 21 August 2015 onwards
. Singapore and Indonesia, from 1 September 2015 onwards
