Being one of the 17 megadiverse countries on earth, the majority of Malaysia is covered in rainforest. While there are 13 states in Malaysia, the general public are mostly familiar with KL and Penang.

So Fwukai Quah, a young Malaysian photographer, set out on a 4-year long journey to capture and showcase a wide range of the Malaysian landscapes across the 13 states.

He wanted to show not just his love for the land he was born in, but also to educate others about Malaysia's diverse and breathtaking beauty that most of the outside world is oblivious to. And in an attempt to do so, he made a time lapse video of the 13 states.

Speaking to Reuters about his project titled 'Tanahair Ku', Quah shared the good memories he had from filming throughout Malaysia, including everything from seeing wild animals in the forests to meeting tribes whose language he could barely speak

The gorgeously shot time lapse video, 'Tanahair Ku' / 'My Mother Land', true to its name, perfectly captures Malaysia's sublime beauty

While sharing his experience, Quah also told Reuters about the most difficult aspect of filming the video. According to him, it was the weather, as he had to be in the right place at the right time

He also had to battle the cold in order to get the Milky Way footage
