M'sian Bakat List #1: 17-Year-Old Students Making A Name For Themselves Through Filmmaking
The Perimeter has their eyes set on success.
What were you up when you were 17 years old? Many of us were probably getting into lots of trouble or busy chasing the girl next door, right? But the same can't be said for Satyaseelan and his best friend Arsyad, who are carving out a name for themselves in the art of filmmaking.
Yes, both of them are only 17 years old!
The best friends started making videos back in 2013, when they were 14. At first, it was all for good fun but they started to take things seriously when The Perimeter came along.
"I still remember we were just doing videos for fun, there wasn't much thought or purpose into it, maybe that's why we didn't get good responses and feedbacks. That's when we decided to do something different and started 'The Perimeter' to produce better content," Satyaseelan said.
While most local YouTubers stick to comedy, they decided to go against the norm. Because of that, The Perimeter hit 1,000 subscribers in just a span of a few months. So what's The Perimeter?
"The Perimeter is a film project based on good storytelling. We want to capture moments through our daily adventures and travels. Our passion goes beyond just filming, we want to tell a story, capture a moment and eventually give something for our viewers to remember.
You see, typical Malaysian Youtubers are making videos with a comedic twist - but we decided to try something really different," said Satyaseelan.
The duo has produced a total of 8 videos, with the most current one - MELAKA - being their best work to date
When asked why they chose Melaka, Satyaseelan said, "We chose Melaka because it's so historical and reeks such charm. It's a melting pot of culture."
Spending a total of 8 hours in the state, the duo shot all the footages using their own equipment which consists of a Canon EOS 600D and a tripod
"In addition to that, we edited this video in Adobe Premiere Pro with a colour grading preset called M31 LUT. "
However, it wasn't smooth sailing for the boys as they faced challenges including bad weather and the lack of transportation
"The sky wasn't on our side when we reached. It was about to rain when we started filming but thank God we managed to get some good shots before it rained. Besides that, we had a shortage of time as we needed to head back home to Port Dickson by our own."
So, what's the next for The Perimeter?
"We have a lot of plans this year after our SPM including venturing into documentaries on social issues. But the one that's coming up really soon is a documentary project titled as "Humans of Kuala Lumpur."
