Have you ever woken up with puffy eyes and fine lines from pressing your face up against the pillow all night? :/

Mornings like that can be annoying to deal with, especially when puffy eyes and premature lines around our eye sockets can make us look more tired and older than we actually are.

Thankfully, there are ways to mitigate puffiness as well as early onset of wrinkles around the eyes.

Here are seven simple ways you can try to ease puffy eyes and keep premature wrinkles around them at bay:

1. Always remember to apply sunscreen

Whether rain or shine, it is important to apply sunscreen (on your face and body). However, an area that most may neglect to protect is the under eye.

Similar to the rest of your body, harmful UVA and UVB rays can cause undesired effects like skin cancer, premature wrinkles, and more, so sunscreen up and don't forget your under eye area!

2. Use cold compresses in the morning and evening

When you use a cold compress, like a spoon that's been chilled in the fridge, on the skin under your eyes, blood flow to the area gets taken down a notch.

Another simple thing you can try are eye masks. Keep the eye masks in your fridge so they're chilled and ready to be used whenever you need them.

Cold compresses such as the above don't only lessen inflammation, but also minimise the appearance of puffiness and dark under eye circles. Plus, they act as refreshing facial treats too! :D

3. Get hydrated and don't go overboard with the sodium

Did you know not drinking enough water is a common cause of dark eye circles? Lack of hydration means that the skin under your eyes will take on a duller appearance.

Meanwhile, eating too much sodium or salt can make your body retain water, leading to puffiness in not only your face and under eyes, but also your body. Yet another reason to keep your hydration levels in check! :O

Try limiting processed foods (typically high in sodium). If you do indulge in a high sodium meal, make sure to drink enough water.

4. Upgrade to a good eye serum

There are many products targeted for the eye area, but the key here is to look for a good hydrating eye serum, and more importantly, use it consistently.

For one thing, eye serums typically pack a higher concentration of active ingredients, while maintaining their lightweight consistency meant to sink into your skin faster and easier than creams.

Keep an eye out for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and caffeine, which can respectively help to smooth fine lines, as well as reduce puffiness.

One product that checks those boxes is the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum, featuring a 2.5% hyaluronic acid and caffeine concentration.

5. Put on sunglasses or other protective clothing

Sunglasses aren't just a fashion statement, they serve a practical purpose too! They can help put up a barrier against skin-damaging environmental factors like sun and wind, as well as excessive heat and cold.

When your skin is exposed to daily pollution, it can trigger issues like stinging and irritation, making your skin more sensitised and weakened. The same goes to your under eye area, where the skin is typically thinner than other parts of your face, allowing effects like fine lines and dark circles to set in easier and prematurely.

Besides wearing sunglasses, putting on a wide-brimmed hat may also be a good idea if you're walking outdoors.

6. Consider switching to silk pillowcases and the like

Silk or satin pillowcases create less friction on your skin, which helps minimise irritation, and typically retain skin moisture better compared to cotton pillowcases (minimising dryness and premature fine lines).

This may make a difference if you're a side sleeper or sleep with your face touching the pillow.

Plus, you'll get all the other possible benefits of switching to slicker fabrics like silk, which tend to be gentler on hair, as well as sensitive and acne-prone skin.

7. Try gentle rollers and easy, at-home facial exercises

Puffy eyes and dark circles can sometimes result due to excess fluid buildup in the area.

To help ease the natural drainage system of the eye area (lymphatic system), you can try jade rollers or dedicated eye rollers that often sport dual action by massaging and depuffing under eyes, while providing an instant cooling effect.

Pair that with gentle 30-second massages, where you lightly tap around your eye area and temple, and you're in for a relaxing time. ;)

If you're in search of a new product that effectively cares for the area around your eyes, the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum may be just the thing you need

The eye serum features two main active ingredients — hyaluronic acid and caffeine.

With 2.5% hyaluronic acid and caffeine concentration, L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum deeply hydrates as well as plumps the skin to diminish fine lines around the eyes.

Featuring moisture-enhancing properties, hyaluronic acid is a potent hydration-attracting molecule naturally found in skin, providing good hydration and smoothening premature wrinkles.

The addition of caffeine, on the other hand, helps to energise skin and reduce puffiness, giving your eyes a refreshed look.

This is the first serum with triple roller applicator from L'Oréal Paris, dedicated to depuffing and revealing younger looking eyes in two weeks*

L'Oréal's patented triple bead roller applicator is made of three stainless steel cooling balls that bend at optimal angles to provide a full eye-contour massage.

Not only does it depuff under eyes, the applicator also helps active ingredients absorb better into your skin, and simultaneously provides an instant cooling effect.

Suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin, the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye serum is dermatologically tested for safety, non-greasy, and safe for contact lens wearers.

It is also paraben-free, dye-free, fragrance-free, mineral oil-free, and allergy tested.

At the end of the day, L'Oreal Paris intends to be a game changer when it comes to offering skincare products that work effectively — in this case, the L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye serum

Since the skin around your eyes is more delicate than the rest of your face, eye serums typically feature higher concentrations of active ingredients to target specific skin conditions.

Plus, boasting a lightweight consistency, the L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye serum is able to sink into your skin faster than creams, helping to diminish fine lines and puffy eyes, as well as moisturise your skin.

Not to mention, its innovative triple bead roller provides an instant cooling effect, which helps soothe your under eyes too!
