What’s #1 On Your Wish List For Your Favourite Malaysian City?
What is the city but the people?
Have you ever wondered, wished, and daydreamed about how your city would be if you had it your way? We asked 9 Malaysians about their wish list for their cities and here are their answers:
Notes: Some names and identifying details have been changed to protect the privacy of individuals.
"How many times have you gone out, and wished you could find a nice, quiet place for a little R&R? Imagine if we have one of those portable, mini nap pods sprawled across KL. Because sometimes when you gotta nap, you gotta nap!" - Ashley, 22, Student
"Oh man, I really wish we can get vending machines for hot meals in KL. After a night out of drinking or partying, those greasy and unhealthy fast foods are THE BEST!" - Rachel, 30, Manager
"I always get super jealous by the ang mohs who have all these cool things like outdoor cinemas. We should totally have those here in Penang. Not sure how we're gonna tackle the problem of our extreme weathers yet but we're smart people. We'll figure it out!" - Lily, 23, Student
"I truly believe that Johor has a budding street art scene and we should further nurture it. Let's have giant, blank canvasses along the streets with some free paint, open for everyone to use. I think we might just be surprised by the outcome of this!" - Jason, 28, Business owner
"KL people have it so lucky cause there is an endless list of bars and clubs that open till late. I wish that there was a pop-up bar near where I live in that opens all night. Having a drink, chilling, watching the stars during the cool nights. Ahhh, the dream!" - Matt, 36, Consultant
"I'm actually super jealous of Penang-ites cause they get free Wi-Fi, which is super cool. C'mon, it's time for KL to step up our game. I would love to see Johor have free Wi-Fi also, but scared Singaporeans will come steal our Internet. Lol jkjk!" - Cindy, 25, Events executive
"It would be really nice to see more trees, flowers, and just nature in general in the concrete jungle that I live in here in KL. Driving down roads surrounded by luscious, green landscape would be perfect to end your long, tiring day at work." - Ken, 31, Manager
"Look, I'm a lazy person. If I could, I wouldn't walk anywhere, especially outdoors. You know those travelator things they have at the airport? They should replace all the sidewalks in the major cities in Malaysia with those travelators! I can't believe no one has made this happen yet." - Adam, 35, Writer
"I'm from Kuching and I think we should have giant air vacuums or ventilators across the country, especially all the major cities to filter the polluted air. I can see it being extra useful during the haze season." - Chris, 33, Senior sales executive
"We should have more bold and awesome infrastructure in our cities to make our country look cooler. Like futuristic, contemporary, and urban designs on bridges, stadiums, highways, and buildings! Let's transform the Penang bridge hehe." - Elle, 32, Designer
However, sometimes it's not just about what your city can offer, but also what you can do to shape your city
As part of Heineken's Shape Your City global campaign, they would like to invite fellow Malaysians to take small actions to create a transformation in the cities that they live in. Bringing people together to make the cities we live in more energetic and vibrant, Heineken's pop-up bars will be in several major cities across Malaysia:
Venue: Hin Bus Depot, Penang
Date: 30 July 2016
Time: 8pm onwards
Venue: Plaza Batai, Kuala Lumpur
Date: 26 August 2016
Time: 6pm onwards
A multi-area concept built around a pop-up bar, this exclusive mix of functional art and social recreational space is purpose-built to break down barriers and promote social interaction. The #ShapeYourCity pop-up bar will be opened to public.
