How did your Instagram account come about?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

I made my account back in 2010 the moment I noticed a new app being launched in the Apple app store; back then Instagram was still really, really new and my account was rarely updated. Things then took a turn in the late 2013-2014.

How do you find inspiration for your photos?

Most of the time I get a new idea on what and how to shoot when I'm back from school/work after a much needed shower. Then I'll pursue that idea the next day itself or a few days later depending on the situation and urgency. I also love browsing through random magazines that can easily be found in cafes nowadays.

Do you use a phone or camera to capture your images?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

It's a tie between my handy iPhone 5S and my Canon 1200D really. If I need a shot to be done quickly in tight spaces, I'd opt for my iPhone.

What are your favourite things to shoot?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

Food and coffee! I do love shooting people too, but most of those shots don't usually end up on my account. In time, perhaps!

What are some of your favourite spots to shoot?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

I love shooting at spots where natural lighting (sunlight) is of abundance. Shots under these circumstances naturally require very little editing.

Speaking of editing, what's your favourite photo editing software/app?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

Snapseed. It is the Adobe Photoshop of mobile editing apps. Another favorite would be Afterlight.

Tell us more about you, Zach! Your hobbies and maybe your favorite Malaysian food?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

I'm currently in my final semester, pursuing a degree in Accounting and Finance. I will be graduating by the end of the year if all goes well. I also work as a barista during the weekends at night in a cafe located in Subang Jaya (AMPM cafe). I took up this job because I wanted to learn more about the things I shoot; particularly coffee. I love playing the guitar and piano during my free time and occasionally play some sports if I have even more free time (that's pretty rare though!). As much as I love 'cafe-hopping', my favorites would still be our 'nasi lemak' and 'teh ais'. Nothing beats that. Not even a good cup of latte!

What is your process of taking the perfect shot? And where do you find inspiration?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

It depends on the type of food I'm having, then I'll decide on how to compose/frame the shot.

What would you say to someone who is aspiring to be an Instagrammer like yourself?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

Just be yourself and capture moments that you love. Also, don't be shy if you wanna snap your 'roti canai' or 'pan mee', just snap away! Most importantly, you don't have to be a professional photographer to be an Instagrammer. Look at me!

What are the challenges you face as an Instagrammer?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

Having to come up with shots that are not repetitive. A cup of coffee will always look like a cup of coffee; it's how you make a picture out of it that counts.

Lastly, how has photography affected your life?

Image via Zacharyyeoh

First thing that comes to my mind whenever I stumble upon new sights/scenery/scenes of food/cafe culture/settings - how am I going to express what I just saw in a picture? Photography to me is not a chore, routine or an obligation that bores me, it's something that fuels my passion and reminds me to never stop doing what I love.
