2. Kee Hiong Bak Kut Teh

If you're looking for some original Klang claypot bak kut teh, look no further than Kee Hiong. Established by the descendants of Lee Boon Teh, the godfather of bak kut teh from Fujian, China, Kee Hiong offers an authentic and flavourful bowl that will evoke nostalgia with every mouthful.

Their soup is rich with a strong herbal taste, while their dry bak kut teh is delightfully spicy, and is cooked with fried shallots to give it an extra fragrance. Currently, they have several outlets across Malaysia, and have even opened a branch in Singapore and in Perth, Australia.

3. Fatty Bak Kut Teh & Fish Head

Located at Old Klang Road, Fatty Bak Kut Teh has been operating since 2002, serving not only bak kut teh, but also signature steamed song fish (carp) head. Their pork tail is considered a speciality that has a mix of tender meat, soft fat, and chewy skin wrapped around a bone.

Their fish head comes in a variety of appetising sauces, including ginger, black soybean, chilli sauce, and original. Their sauce is flavourful and nutritious, as it is made with a combination of premium soy sauce, fish sauce, and essence of chicken.

4. Ah Ping Bak Kut Teh

One of the best places among Subang folk, Ah Ping was founded in the late 1980s, serving original Klang bak kut teh with chunky slices of pork in a rich and fragrant herbal broth. Meanwhile, their dry version consists of cooked pork slices with spicy black sticky sauce that will make you crave for more.

5. Kim Tek Bak Kut Teh

Based in Kepong, Kim Tek serves generous helpings from pork ribs, pork meat, mixed meat, pork knuckles, intestines, and more. Their soup is thick and gelatinous, and you can choose between the dark Hokkien broth and the clear, peppery Teochew version.

The meat fully absorbs all the herbal flavours from the soup, and will fall off the bone softly. Each mouthful brings a heavenly taste, and the dining experience is totally worth it.

6. Ah Hei Bak Kut Teh

A popular breakfast spot, Ah Hei's bak kut teh sometimes run out as early as 12pm. Although their soup looks light, it's aromatic and doesn't have too strong a herbal taste, which is perfect for those who prefer it this way.

You can order spare ribs, or the classic mixture of pork ribs, stomach, intestines, and the usual vegetables. Besides that, they also have claypot ginger chicken, sesame oil chicken with ginger, stir fry eggplant, braised pork trotters, and other must-try dishes.

7. Sum Hou Bak Kut Teh

Situated in Sri Hartamas, Sum Hou serves piping hot bowls of traditional bak kut teh with aromatic onion or long bean rice. They have a variety of meat options, and you can pick between pork rib, soft rib bone, tail, tendon, belly, knuckle meat, intestine, stomach, liver, or kidney.

8. Wing Hiong Bak Kut Teh

Wing Hiong offers an extensive menu, serving not only bak kut teh, but also clams, fish, pork stomach soup, vinegar pork, vegetables, and tofu. Their bak kut teh broth is thick, dark, and satisfyingly aromatic, and is more on the sweet side.

9. Kheong Kee Bak Kut Teh

Kheong Kee started as a small corner shop, and now owns several shoplots around KL. Here, they serve vegetarian bak kut teh made with premium ingredients. Although their soup has a mild herbal taste, and is lighter than the Klang version, it is soothing and delicious in its own unique way.

Aside from their bak kut teh, you should try their yellow wine chicken soup, vinegar pork knuckle, Thai fried tofu, spicy and sour vegetable stew, and black pepper soup with ribs.

10. Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh

Situated in PJ Old Town, Heng Kee is well frequented by locals who crave a warm and comforting bowl of bak kut teh. The herbal soup of their bak kut teh is slightly clear, light, and has a mildly sweet aftertaste.

11. Restaurant Mo Sang Kor

Operating since 1972, Restaurant Mo Sang Kor is a family-run business in Pandamaran, serving chewy, succulent, and tender meat that's packed with lots of flavour and melts in your mouth. Their classic herbal soup is thick and gelatinous in texture, with a strong and lingering herbal aftertaste.

Their broth has a rich concentration of herbs and meat, and is meant to be savoured slowly. If you wish to recreate their signature soup yourself, feel free to pick up a packet of their soup ingredients to cook at home.
