Penang's Asam Laksa Ranks 7th On CNN's 'World's 50 Best Foods' List
Our asam laksa beat Thailand's tom yum goong and Singapore's chili crab!
Penang's asam laksa has earned a proud spot in 'The World's 50 Best Foods' by CNN Travel.
And it's one of the top ten dishes in the list.
CNN Travel had its staff scour the planet to compile the most delicious foods ever created - and this local favourite made seventh
Described as "one of Malaysia's most popular dishes", CNN Travel said asam laksa is "an addictive spicy-sour fish broth with noodles that is especially great when fused with ginger".
Acknowledging the complex mix of ingredients such as poached mackerel, tamarind, chili, mint, lemongrass, onion, and pineapple, the travel guide also said, "[It will] have your nose running before the spoon even hits your lips."
According to CNN, Malaysia's asam laksa is better than Thailand's tom yum goong and 43 other foods which includes Singapore's chilli crab and chicken rice at 35th and 45th place, respectively
