UPDATE (5 October): 1 Utama Shopping Centre just announced that a staff member from Mac City Service Centre has tested positive for COVID-19

Prior to the recently reported case, 1 Utama debunked WhatsApp rumours claiming that a cleaner had COVID-19

On 28 September, 1 Utama released a statement debunking those rumours that were circulating group chats all week.

"There have been NO confirmed cases in 1 Utama to date. With news of COVID appearing around Klang Valley, we appreciate and understand that everyone is worried. So are we.

"But it really doesn't help things by making up imaginary brother-in-laws, yi ma ku cheh, this friend that friend, to cause misinformation and mass hysteria. Fearmongering through drama mingguans is not cool," reads the statement.

The shopping mall reassures that it conducts screen checks consistently and that the building is frequently sanitised

Other than keeping your masks on and practising physical distancing, 1 Utama urged the public to comply with security guards and shop staff.

"Please don't yell at frontliners like security guards or shop staff who request for temperature checks. They are just trying to keep you safe. Trust us, it happens a lot."
