An elderly voter's wish to fulfil her responsibility could not come true this morning, 19 November, when she breathed her last at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Lit Terk in Paloh, Johor

In the incident at 10.21am, Tuminah Ambiah, 85, died while waiting for her turn to vote.

The Johor Election Commission (EC) in its statement said the incident happened when the victim was waiting in line to cast her ballot.

A Ministry of Health (MOH) officer who was at the scene confirmed the death of the elderly woman, reported Berita Harian.

Tuminah would have casted her vote for the Sembrong parliamentary seat.

Meanwhile, another voter, Sh Juhara Syed Mohamad, 57, died at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Ismail Sultan polling centre in Johor Bahru

The victim passed away after voting for the Pulai parliamentary seat.

According to the EC's statement, "The voter arrived in an unwell condition, based on the staff's observation, but wanted to continue voting."

Johor Bahru south district police chief ACP Raub Selamat said an investigation found no elements of crime or traces of a struggle.

"Sh Juhara sat down for a while and walked about 100m then sat down again on the floor," he said, adding that Sh Juhara complained of fatigue and was wheezing after voting.

"Then her husband asked for help from the EC (officer) to get a wheelchair, but when he came back, he found that Sh Juhara was not breathing."

Raub added that Sh Juhara has a history of illnesses, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and is also suspected of having heart problems and fluid in the lungs.
