24-Year-Old German Student Dies After Falling Into A 76 Metre Deep Langkawi Ravine

Saturday afternoon, on 18 October, a 24-year-old German student fell into a 76 metre deep ravine and was killed immediately after. His name was Alexzande Anton Michael.

Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department Senior Assistant Superintendent Yaakob Hassan said they received a report of the incident at about 3.15 pm, The Star reported

"A rescue team was despatched to the scene reached there at about 3.50pm. The victim was found at the bottom of the ravine, which is about 76m deep. His body was recovered and taken to a safe area at about 4.50pm," he said, adding that the body was sent to Langkawi Hospital for a post-mortem.

According to Langkawi District Police Chief Supt Harrith Kam Abdullah, the victim and three of his friends hiked up the Telaga Tujuh hill to get a better vantage point of the surroundings

"It was raining quite heavily in the area during the time of the incident, and the trail and surrounding rocks were slippery," he said, adding that the victim was studying at the LimKokWing University of Creative Technology in Cyberjaya. "Police have ruled out foul play and classified the case as sudden death," he said.
