Earlier today, 19 June, a lorry laden with chicken food pallets rammed into a young woman's Proton Persona along Jalan Jelapang in Ipoh
The woman, identified as 26-year-old Noor Aishah Mohd Tahir, died on the spot at around 10am.
According to the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, they received a distress call around 10.28am and were initially told that there were two victims, reported The Star.
"We had difficulties retrieving the body, as the car was under the 24-tonne lorry. However, with the assistance of crane, we were able to retrieve it and the whole operation took about four hours," Fire and Rescue Department Zone 1 leader Nor Rasidamayati Abd Rasid was quoted as saying.
The lorry lost control before ramming into the victim's car
According to a report in New Straits Times, the 24-tonne vehicle was heading to Meru from Jalan Ipoh-Lumut, while the Proton Persona was heading from Meru to Batu Gajah.
The victim's Proton Persona, which was stuck under the lorry, got dragged with the heavy vehicle until it rammed into the wall of a plastic goods factory.
The lorry driver fled the scene
"Upon arriving at the scene, the lorry driver was nowhere to be seen and is believed he has fled from the scene. The police are looking for the lorry driver," Nor Rasidamayati said.
She added that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple injuries and her body was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem and further police action.
Police are intensifying effort to locate the man and the cause of the accident is still being investigated, according to district police chief ACP Yahaya Hassan.
