A tragic accident in Jalan Ketapang has claimed a three-year-old boy's life after he was accidentally run over by his own mother
The tragedy occurred outside the family's home in Masai, one of the oldest neighbourhood of Johor Bahru town, at about 12.30pm yesterday, 14 February.
According to a report in NST Online, the boy's mother didn't realise the child was in front of her Perodua Alza when he was hit and dragged for about 10 metres.
The distraught mother, in her 30s, said she initially thought she was dragging some garbage that got stuck to the car's undercarriage
"I'm still confused by what happened. When I left, he was still in the house," she said.
The mother only suspected something was wrong after she had already driven for about several metres, according to a family friend
"She thought her youngest child was in the house with his four siblings. Her husband was also in the house at the time.
"She only suspected something amiss after driving for about several metres.
"When she came out of the vehicle, she was shocked to find her son under the vehicle," NST Online quoted the family friend as saying.
While the family rushed the boy to the Hospital Penawar Pasir Gudang, it was too late. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.
