“We thought the family was going to hold a celebration,” said a resident, who declined to reveal his name.

One resident said they were surprised that the wake was being held at their condominium unit.

“We have been told that wake and funeral services for those staying in high-rise units in Bandar Baru Air Itam should only be held at the Khoo Kongsi funeral parlour which is about 2km away,” he said.

The victim runs a scrapyard in KL and is a father to a newborn baby

Veerappan, who operates a scrap yard in Kuala Lumpur, returned to his hometown for the naming ceremony of his newborn son.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Two 'parangs' were found in the victim's car

Police found 14 bullet casings at the scene. Two machetes wrapped in newspaper were found in the rear passenger seat of the BMW.

The victim, with a string of drug trafficking and possession offences, was found slumped in his driver seat with multiple bodily gunshots.
