Dr Malar Santhi Santherasegapan, a medical doctor and social media influencer, was awarded the prestigious Employee of the Year Award at the 2023 Workers' Day celebration at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), on Monday, 1 May

According to The Star, the Labour Day award and check for RM10,000 was presented to her by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Malaysian Indian doctor, who works at the emergency unit in Asia Columbia Hospital in Cheras, Selangor, said the award is a great honour and recognition of her work.

Besides her work at the hospital, the mother of two earned the award for her social media advocacy, where she would share endless information about the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccination, and other health related issues

According to Sinar Harian, the Kuantan-born's fluency in Bahasa Melayu (BM) was a catalyst for her gaining many followers on her Instagram account, @celetohdrmalar.

Malar, who obtained her Master of Health Administration in Healthcare Management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), said it's her civic duty to share health-related information with the public.

"If possible I want to reduce congestion in the hospital by sharing useful health tips with the public," she said.

She also told Sinar Harian that she will continue sharing health-related information that is easy to digest on social media.
