62-Year-Old Businessman Dead And 5 Others Injured After Trailer Rammed Into 2 Cars

A man was killed and his wife injured when a trailer truck rammed into their vehicle and another car before bursting into flames along the mountainous Tamparuli-Ranau trunk road near here.

The 62-year-old businessman, Koh Tze Guan, died on the spot while his wife Lim Nyuk Peng sustained head injuries in the 9.20am mishap, about 60km from the city.

The trailer truck also rammed into another vehicle in the incident, and its two passengers, Edmand Minsuan and Musinah Gosong, sustained minor injuries

Also injured were truck driver Perantifinoh Asman, 34, and his passenger, Mohd Arash Jatah, 30.

Fire and Rescue Services Department PR officer senior assistant superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin said 12 personnel from Tuaran were rushed to the scene

He said its personnel managed to control the blaze within minutes of arriving. "Four of the victims were taken to hospital by the public and it took us several minutes to extract one of the victims (Koh)," he said.

"As the truck was approaching a bend, the driver lost control of the vehicle which then rammed into the Toyota Prado and Proton Pesona vehicles that were on the opposite lane," she said.

Juraimah said that Koh was pinned in the driver's seat and was pronounced dead at the scene from severe head and body injuries, while the five other victims sustained injuries. She said Koh's body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu for a post-mortem, while the injured victims were seeking treatment at the Tuaran Hospital.

Juraimah said the case would be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and she urged eyewitness to come forward to assist police in their investigations.
