7-Year-Old In Johor Bahru With Suspected Influenza Dies From Organ Failure

Seven-year-old Nur Dinie Damia Muhammad Noor has died due to complications stemming from an influenza-like illness
The child's father, Muhammad Noor Amin, told Harian Metro that his daughter was pronounced dead last night, 13 January, at 10.41pm.
She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), Johor Bahru four days ago, after her health greatly deteriorated while receiving care at a private hospital.
Earlier yesterday, her father said that she had contracted a liver infection and was announced brain dead.
Prior to that, Dinie suffered a terrible fever that lasted several days.
Amin explained, "On the third day, her fever still didn't go away. Therefore, I took her to a clinic and the doctor suspected that she was infected with Influenza A before referring her to a private hospital."
"Her condition worsened while at the private hospital. She began throwing up blood and they then referred her to HSA to be monitored by specialists."
State Education, Health, and Human Resources Committee chairman Aminolhuda Hassan clarified that the child suffered several other complications leading to her death and it was not just caused by influenza
"As a matter of fact, 89 students from preschool up to Form Four who are suspected to be infected with influenza are being treated as outpatients and have been requested to rest in their own homes," he added.
Meanwhile, New Straits Times reported that Johor Chief Minister Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal said that the victim has been found negative of influenza after a PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test was conducted.
