Earlier this week, a 24-year-old was reported missing in Shah Alam after he left his rented apartment in Section 16 with a friend for a Pasar Malam around Thursday midnight

The Star Online said that the boy was driving his black Perodua Axia and was heading towards Uptown Shah Alam when his girlfriend couldn't get hold of him at 12.49am.

She then informed his mother about it, who tried to get in touch with her son, Mohammad Hafiz Ismail. However, his mobile was not active, NST Online reported.

Their attempts to get more information on Hafiz's friend but was also unsuccessful.

"I have only met Wan once, and I did not really see his face properly as we met at night. Hafiz told me before that Wan worked as a food stall helper near his rented apartment, and he treated Wan like a brother," the mother was quoted as saying by NST Online.

On Friday night, a missing persons' report was lodged at the Shah Alam Section 9 police station on Friday, 23 March.

His friends, meanwhile, took to social media for help.

After Hafiz had been missing for 24 hours, one of his friends took to Instagram and uploaded a missing persons' notice, which reportedly went viral.

"I need everyone's help in spreading the news, as he has been missing for more than 24 hours. A police report has been lodged," the friend wrote, according to NST Online.

The cause of worry was genuine for the family, as Hafiz had never done something like this before, his mother said

"He always informed us of his whereabouts.

"The last time we saw him was when he came home last Sunday for a kenduri. He then returned to his apartment," the mother added.

Then later on Friday, his friends located the black Perodua Axia, driven by Hafiz, abandoned in Bandar Baru Klang

While his car was now found, further attempts by Hafiz's parents and his friends to contact him since his disappearance still proved unsuccessful.

According to NST Online, the mystery behind the 24-year-old's disappearance was finally solved when his parents were informed that Hafiz was actually in police custody

One of the restaurants in the Pasar Malam, where Hafiz had gone with his friend was raided by the police that night.

The family found out, after reviewing the restaurant's CCTV footage, that during the raid, police detained both of them along with others and took them to a nearby police station for further investigation.

Hafiz was released after he tested negative in a urine test

He was detained at North Klang district police headquarters, from where he was released at 7pm on Friday, reported NST Online.
