The baby's mother, who is the victim's granddaughter, was in her room when the eight-month-old baby started crying in the living room

"The suspect then used abusive words and alleged the victim was not good in taking care of the baby before hitting the victim until she fell," said Arshad as reported by Bernama.

"Soon after assaulting her, the suspect fled with his wife and child," he added.

The grandmother suffered severe injuries to her forehead and eyes

According to Arshad, the victim received treatment at Jasin Hospital and will be transferred to Melaka Hospital as her injuries were too severe.

He added that the victim is at risk of losing her eyesight and needed to be referred to an eye specialist.

The suspect and his wife had been staying with the victim since they got married

Bernama reported that both the suspect and his wife were dependent on the victim as they did not have stable jobs.

The grandmother had worked at an Islamic school canteen as a cook and only earned RM250 a month.

The suspect was detained the same day at 11pm in Bachang

The suspect also reportedly tested positive for drugs and had two previous criminal records for drug abuse.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
