The mastermind of the high-profile murder of Arab-Malaysian Development Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi, 77, in July is believed to have fled to China.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the latest intelligence reports indicated that the fugitive had left Australia and was currently hiding in China.

“We are communicating with our Chinese counterparts to help us track him down,” he said during a press conference at Hospital Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The operation headed by Kuala Lumpur CID deputy chief ACP Khairy Ahrasa began at 10am, with the deployment of 30 policemen from the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

With Sei Ngan Chai in custody, police hope to uncover the motive of the murder and the person or people who hired the hitman.

The main suspect, Sei Ngan Chai, in the murder of Hussain Ahmad Najadi was arrested in Larut Tin Tambahan in Taiping at 12:30AM on Monday, 23 Sept 2013.

“We tracked down the suspect in Taiping and have arrested him, along with two others whom we believe helped protect him,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said at a press conference at the KL police headquarters.

Two Chinese men, 31 and 26, suspected to Sei’s accomplices, will be investigated under Section 212 of the Penal Code, for harbouring a criminal offender.

The man is believed to have been with Chew Siang Chee, 45, the taxi driver who ferried the suspected shooter on the morning of Najadi's murder; the man surrendered to the police at 10pm the same day.

City Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the man will be charged with possession of firearms.

The 44-year-old cabbie, who was picked up at a coffee shop in Sri Petaling on the night of July 30, had his initial week-long remand period extended when it ended on Aug 6.

According to The Star, murdered Najadi had played a role in protecting the interest of the Kuan Yin Temple in Jalan Ceylon. Police revealed that Najadi was neither a buyer nor a seller in the deal but was merely there to ensure the temple wouldn't be sold or demolished.

According to Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm Ku Chin Wah, investigations showed that Najadi was trying to help protect the temple’s interests in a land deal that was being negotiated.

Police have arrested a taxi driver believed to be the suspect’s getaway driver. City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the 44-year-old driver was detained in Sri Petaling at about 9pm on Tues, 30 July.

"Initial investigations revealed the driver dropped off the suspect (known as Sei Ngan Chai) at Jalan Yap Ah Loy after picking him up near the temple...he claimed the suspect was a regular passenger."

Sei Ngan Chai means "the spectacled guy" in Cantonese. Meanwhile, Pascal, Najadi's only child, said he wasn't aware of any property disputes involving his firm.

Police know what the man who shot Hussain Ahmad Najadi looks like. They have managed to get a photograph of the man, thanks to a CCTV footage from a camera near the Lorong Ceylon Kuan Yin Temple.

Police believe that the shooting was done by a hire killer and that the motive for the murder on Monday, 29 July 2013, is believed to be revenge, linked to property deals.

Arab Malaysian Banking Group founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi was laid to rest at 8.30pm on Tuesday, 30 July 2013, at the Mont Kiara Muslim Cemetery.

A video taken minutes after banker Hussain Ahmad Najadi was shot dead has sparked Internet outrage after it was uploaded to a Facebook page.

The 30-second video shows a lifeless Hussain on the ground of the parking lot covered in blood. A woman, believed to be his 49-year-old wife, is seen cradling his head on her lap as she sits slumped on the ground.
