The mastermind of the high-profile murder of Arab-Malaysian Development Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi, 77, in July is believed to have fled to China.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the latest intelligence reports indicated that the fugitive had left Australia and was currently hiding in China.

Over the past two days, scuba divers had tried to locate the firearm at a depth of 10 metres. They were part of a police team which also comprised members of a forensic unit and the General Operations Force.
