Perak police have arrested a 30-year-old babysitter after a two-year-old girl died from head injuries sustained during a fall at her house
The victim reportedly fell on Monday, 5 August. She was taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a paediatric medical officer at about 11.10pm on Tuesday, 6 August.
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the victim's father lodged a police report on the day of the incident, after learning that she had lost consciousness following a fall to the floor at her babysitter's home in Taman Cempaka.
"The results of the autopsy conducted [on Wednesday morning, 7 August] revealed that the cause of death was a head injury due to blunt force trauma," Azizi said in a statement, as reported by Bernama.
The babysitter has since been remanded for six days
The remand order, which starts today, 8 August, until 13 August, was granted by magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhammad Dan, reported the New Straits Times.
It is to facilitate investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years or a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.
