A 38-year-old programmer in Beijing has gained significant attention on social media for living in his car for nearly three years
The man, identified only as Yin, works in Beijing during the week and returns to his family in the nearby city of Tianjin on weekends, the South China Morning Post reported via Xiaoxiang Morning Herald.
Yin, who previously rented an apartment in Beijing for 2,500 yuan (approximately RM1,480) a month, decided to move into his car to save money and embrace a lifestyle he enjoys.
In the latter half of 2022, he switched to a more spacious electric vehicle, which he has transformed into a comfortable living space complete with a bed, karaoke set, and even a cooking setup.

His monthly expenses are now significantly lower, with expressway tolls amounting to 400 yuan (approximately RM236) and electricity for charging his car under CNY300 (around RM177)
Yin said the experience is "no worse than staying in a hotel".
His leisure activities include watching television, singing karaoke, and video-calling his wife and two sons.

Yin explained that he needs to work in Beijing due to the limited job opportunities for programmers in his hometown of Tianjin
He remains unfazed by others' opinions about his unconventional lifestyle.
"I don't mind others' opinions; I'm committed to the lifestyle I prefer," he said.
He also enjoys camping and often takes his family on trips, during which they all sleep in the car.
