A multi-storey car park under construction at the Gombak Integrated Transport Terminal collapsed at 1.00am today, 23 May

According to Fire and Rescue Department commander M. Murugiah, three construction workers were trapped when the concrete building measuring 2,500 square feet collapsed, Malay Mail reported.

"We received a distress call minutes after the incident and we dispatched a team of 46 fire and rescue personnel," he said.

The rescue mission began at 9.30am.

An Indonesian couple were reported missing after their friend, a construction worker, could not find them after the collapse.

At 2.30pm, their bodies were discovered under the rubble.

"They were found hugging each other until the last moments of their lives," Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Nordin Pauzi said, Free Malaysia Today.

"We then began to look for more victims under the rubble of the building," he added.

Two victims were rescued by fellow construction workers and sent to a hospital for treatment

"Meanwhile, rescue operations were focused on the trapped worker whose body was wedged between a collapsed beam," he said, according to Malay Mail.

After the structure was stabilised, rescue operations resumed to extricate the victim.

After consulting with medical personnel on site, the rescue team decided to amputate part of the victim's crushed hand in order to free him from the rubble.
