[BREAKING] Young Girl Falls To Her Death At The Gardens Mall

The management of The Gardens Mall has refuted claims that a seven-year-old girl had fallen to her death through a gap next to the escalator. In a statement, it said it conducted a check at the scene where Nurul Emielda Nadia Sallehuddin had fallen on Saturday and viewed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording.

“According to camera footage, Nur Emielda and her family were standing next to the escalator on the third floor at the north side of the building,” it said. “Nurul Emielda was playing with the escalator’s handrail belt, which was moving upwards. She was lifted by the moving belt, lost her balance and fell.”

The management said a security personnel patrolling the floor rushed to the scene and was joined by other security personnel. “The area was immediately cordoned off to allow space for the family and a by-standing medical practitioner who performed CPR on her,” it said.

The management notified Brickfields police and paramedics from University Malaya Medical Centre. The mall also said it made frequent checks to ensure its escalators complied with safety regulations.

The father of seven-year-old Nurul Emielda Nadia Sallehuddin, the girl who fell to her death from the third floor of a shopping mall Saturday, said he accepted his daughter's death.

"I accept what has happened and everything has been made clear in the newspapers. Please respect my feeling," he said when met at the waiting room of the University Malaya Medical Centre's forensic division here today.

Nurul Emielda Nadia's body was then brought to the surau at the medical centre for prayers before it was taken to the Puncak Alam Muslim cemetery for burial. Police confirmed the girl died of injuries to the back of her head and classified the case as sudden death

The little girl who died after plunging to her death at a mall from three-storeys high will be laid to rest in Puncak Alam on Sunday. It was reported that Emielda was playing with her brother near the escalator when she fell to her death. The bereaved father requested the media to respect the family’s privacy as he walked to the surau to pray for his daughter.
