There have been complaints about delay with university students getting the KADS1M (Kad Diskaun Siswa 1Malaysia).

Students in tertiary education will receive a KADS1M Debit card worth RM250 this year

KADS1M (Kad Diskaun Siswa 1Malaysia) has been revamped and it's no longer just a discount card for students. It now functions like a Debit card and each card is preloaded with RM250.

Unlike the previous years, eligible students will receive this instead of books vouchers since the Bantuan Buku 1 Malaysia (BB1M) scheme has been replaced with this initiative.

The MOHE has begun distributing the RM250 assistance to students through Bank Rakyat since 28 March.

However, many students have complained of not receiving their KADS1M although they have already submitted their applications as instructed

Last month, a student representative from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) said that some KADS1M Debit Card applications on Bank Rakyat's website might have gone missing due to some system errors.

Following the announcement, there were confusion and panic as students are worried that their application might have been unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, a statement by the MOHE earlier this month revealed that 498,040 students were notified that their card is ready for collection, but only 92,460 students have turned up at the Bank Rakyat branches to collect their respective Debit card.

The MOHE has reminded students to collect their card as soon as possible.

To solve this issue, a new website will be introduced on 1 June to allow students to check the status of their card online

According to a statement by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) on Friday, 26 May, Bank Rakyat will provide an online system that will enable students to review the status of their KADS1M application.

This site can be accessed starting 1 June.

Do remember to check your email regularly as you will receive an email from Bank Rakyat to inform you of when the card is ready for collection at the Bank Rakyat branch that you have selected upon registration.

MOHE said that the process of matching and payment will be made on an ongoing basis and is expected to be completed by 15 July.

The MOHE has also reminded students that have yet to create a bank account with Bank Rakyat to do so immediately

"The Ministry of Higher Education is urging students who have yet to open an account with Bank Rakyat to do so immediately."

"Students who already have an existing account with Bank Rakyat prior to this will still need to create a new account because the RM250 assistance will only be channelled into the KADS1M Bank Rakyat account," the statement read.
