Couples Aren't Allowed To Sit Together In This Taman In Kedah
The signboard with the directive has the official logo of Majlis Perbandaran Sungai Petani Kedah Darul Aman (MPSPK).
A signboard that reads "Dilarang pasangan untuk duduk berdua-duaan atau cuba membuat maksiat di kawasan ini" has been spotted in Taman Jubli in Sungai Petani, Kedah
Chinese newspaper Oriental Daily first reported the sighting on Tuesday, 30 August after the photos of the signboard became viral on social media sites, with many ridiculing the directive.
"Dilarang pasangan untuk duduk berdua-duaan atau cuba membuat maksiat di kawasan ini", translates into 'couples are forbidden from sitting together or trying to engage in any immoral activities'.
The signboard also has the official logo of Majlis Perbandaran Sungai Petani Kedah Darul Aman (MPSPK).
When asked about the signboard, MPSPK councillor Ko Hung Weng, said that he has no prior knowledge of the signboard till he saw the social media posts on it, as reported by The Star
"As far as I know, there's only one such signboard in Taman Jubli.
"The setting up of this signboard was never brought up during the council meetings. It can cause a misunderstanding. The message on the signboard is also not clear if it applies to married couples as well," said Ko, as quoted by The Star Online on 31 August.
Shedding light on the matter, Ko clarified that the signboard only applies to Muslims
According to the same report by The Star, Ko had also mentioned that he would seek further information on the signboard from the city council's Landscape Department.
Stressing that this is not the way to curb immoral activities, Ko opined that religious education is a better way to discourage immoral behaviour.
With the image of the signboard all over the social media, it's safe to say that netizens are not happy with the directive
